A warm welcome to all our guests heretoday for this wonderful occasion.Prime Minister HelenClark and Education Minister Chris Carter have asked that Ipass on their best wishes. I hope that they are able tovisit Akoteu Nasaleti in the future to see this wonderfulcentre where our young people are supported in their earlychildhood education. I also want to acknowledge your MP, HonVui Mark Gosche.Today is a day to celebrate andacknowledge the commitment and hard work of all thoseinvolved.Two government grants of almost three quartersof a million dollars have helped fund this centre. But todayis only possible because of the perseverance and dedicationof the local community to make this new centre areality.In particular, much credit should go to ReverTaniele Tonga Vaka, Alfred Palu, and Lute Sefesi. We alsoremember Reverend Vaka's mother, Toa Filimoe'unga Vaka, whowas the driving force behind the achievement we arecelebrating today. Today we are fulfilling her vision.Andwhat a fantastic centre this is!I am sure all thechildren here now, and those children who will join AkoteuNasaleti in the future will get a huge amount of fun,pleasure and learning from the redevelopment of thisservice.From my short time here today, it is obvious thatthis is a positive and supportive environment. There is astrong sense of pride and achievement and the philosophiesand values of the centre Rosetta Stone German are clear to see.Everyone herecan be proud of your achievements. Thank you to all of youwho have contributed towards this project - your support anddetermination indicates how much you value this centre, andhow much you value early childhood education.TheLabour-led government understands the value of earlychildhood education, and we have made a record investment inexpanding services, access and participation. We know thatearly childhood education can make a real difference tochildren, families and our communities.High qualitylearning sets children on the road to be successful learnersin school and later in life. Our investment and financialcontribution in Akoteu Nasaleti is one of our biggest, butI'm sure the investment produces success and manyopportunities in the future for our youngpeople.Education underpins all the goals we have for NewZealand's future, and the goals we have for all NewZealanders. Many Pacific people came to New Zealand becauseof education, because they wanted their children to have abetter education, and the best opportunity they could offerthem. All parents want the best for their children and it isthe government's job to support those goals, and help makethem a reality.Early childhood education is one of themost important things we can do to give young kiwis the beststart in education and in life. The government views earlychildhood education as a vital step in our vision of liftingthe educational achievement of all New Zealand children. The children Rosetta Stone Greek who attend Akoteu Nasleti will have a wonderfulstart to their education and life long learning.Sincewe've been in government, we've been working on raising thequality of ECE, tearing down the barriers to participation,helping make sure kids can access ECE and can access more ofit.
